In 2006, thousands of South
Texans came together to
elect me to the Thirteenth
Court of Appeals. News media
called it an historic
election because I became
the first Republican to be
elected as a judge on the
13th Court in what is known
as one of the most
Democratic Appeals Court
districts in the state.
Throughout my career as a
district and appeals court
judge, I have worked to
prove that no one is above
the law and that everyone is
equal before the law. I
believe that each case must
be decided on its facts and
merits and that we should
not have activist judges
trying to legislate from the
bench.
